I attended a BLC06 conference last summer and keynote Marco Torres, was a keynote. In one of his smaller sessions he showed a great movie clipped and asked the audience to promote and share it. Movie: Digital Students @ Analog Schools Students today are native to technology and schools seem to be stuck in the past. They are not accommodating to todays digital learners. Here is a video where students speak out on what it means to be a digital student at a analog school.

I graduated from my undergrad seven years ago. Construction on a technologically advanced lecture hall was completed the year I left. In the years up to that point my only technology class was on Powerpoint on very old Macintosh computers. If I had the resources that are available to me today back then...just think about all I could do in my classroom. I completely hear what these students are saying. I encourage the use of technology in the classroom. I hope more teachers can jump on that bandwagon.
I am astounsd that collegs are still teaching the smae way as 20 years ago when I was in a gradute school. My trouble with it then was that the input was all verbal and in books. Now we have so may other ways to accomodat different learning styles. Aren't they thinking of those students that had learning accomodations in High school? This class has been offering cutting edge technology tools which i was so scared of previously. Now I see how easy it can be if you have the mind set to explore them.
I was very surprised that the colleges are still "chalk and talk" and that iss the method of teaching. Most students have laptops and make frequent use of the Internet. If we are trying to educate the students to compete in a global world, the teachers must adopt technology. In order for this to happen, all schools should require that teachers increase their technology skills every year. Schools should offer this by way of professional development. I am going to be one teacher who will not be stuck in the past and teach the way I was taught. I want the best for my students and will be using the newly learned technology from this class in my classroom.
Nice comments. Marco's students used video and the web to make a statement.
This video shows how our students have outpaced their teachers with the use of technology. Money, time and opportunity needs to be promoted to allow staff to implement programs. We also need to be more open to differential learning and the opportunities we have to engage our students.
